Class Guide

There are so many different ways in which the message of yoga can be transmitted and so many styles to choose from, and thus there is always going to be a style that you will resonate with, no matter your current state of being, your age, experience, lifestyle or your fitness.

Even in a public group class, you can find your own way in to yoga

Here is a short summary of some of the class styles that you may encounter:

“It is not that the person needs to accomodate him or herself to yoga, but rather yoga practice should be tailored to fit each person.”

T.K.V. Desikachar

Hatha Yoga

Hatha can be considered the umberella term for any yoga practice that emphasizes physical postures and breathing techniques and so most yoga classes you stumble across are most likely a form of hatha yoga.

Ashtanga

Pattabhi Jois’s powerful animated sequence that flows between asanas. Ujjayi breathing is the centrepiece of this class as it creates heat in the body. Ashtanga primary series cleanses and detoxes muscles and organs as well as improves circulation and digestion.

Vinyasa Flow

A dynamic high energy form of Hatha yoga. Vinyasa incorporates aspects of various yoga styles to form an invigorating flow sequence that brings together movement and breath and generates heat in the body, strengthens, awakens and elevates your mood.

Hot Power Yoga

Yoga with the heaters on. (NOT Bikram, which is a branded trademarked style of mr Bikram which is the same sequence held effectively in a sauna!) Strengthening dynamic sequences to sweat out impurities and toxins and feel amazing!

Pregnancy Yoga

Gentle and nourishing yoga class for expectant mothers to help them deal with the stresses, physical changes and emotional journey of pregnancy. Learning breathing techniques, gentle exercises and relaxation methods to bring about a state of peace while at the same time bonding with the little resident in your tummy.

Body Alignment -Iyengar Influenced

Explores the principles of proper alignment and good posture to gain insight into the efficacy of postures and enhance your body intelligence. Breathing and mindfulness are taught. This course provides a firm foundation for beginners and allows intermediates to deepen awareness in their practice.

Sivananda Yoga

This very relaxing Hatha yoga class is taught in the Sivananda tradition. The class follows a sequence of 12 poses with a restorative rest in between each one posture. Each pose counteracts each other so that ever part of the body, both internal and external, is exercised equally in perfect balance. Working in a way similar to acupuncture, each asana (posture) puts pressure and stimulates different points of the body to free prana (energy) within the body.

Yoga for Children

Available for ages 6-11 years. This class aims to allow children to develop a sense of body awareness in a safe and fun environment. Yoga is taught through storytelling as children become the postures such as Dog, Cat, Cow, Cobra, Fish and Tree.
