yoga

We teach Hatha Yoga, from the principles of the Swami Swtmarama Yogi whose ancient scriptures ‘Hatha Yoga Pradipika’ consider the physical body as the temple to the soul and as such, the journey to the soul starts by perfecting physical health.

Hatha Yoga combines Asanas (postures) and Pranayama (breath control) to affect each person in his or her entirety: mind, body and emotion. Many other styles of modern yoga fall within the umbrella of Hatha yoga.

Philosphically speaking, ‘Ha’ translates as sun and ‘tha’ as moon and ‘also Hatha’ means ‘force’ in sanskrit. Thus Hatha refers to the presence of polar opposites throughout all of existence. Through our limited sensory perception of the world and how our brain categorizes things, we continually  experience polar opposites which creates a sense of self which seems seperate to everything else. Yoga attests that this seperatedness is an illusion as in reality all is connected and so hatha yoga is the process of transcending this duality, through ‘forceful’ physical exertion and creating union of all opposites within ourselves in order to return to our True Self, which is non-seperate from the whole.

Regardless of which Yogic practice is followed, the intention is to generate wisdom for living daily life, to enhance awareness and to be present and mindful in thought and action amidst our life’s challenges, obstacles and realities.

Yoga is accessible for all, no matter how flexible, strong or fit (or not!) that you perceive yourself to be. Yoga talks to the artist, the scientist and the philosopher within us all. Through consciously letting go of habitual holding patterns, you not only change your physiology but also your mental attitude for the better, evoking your own radiate energy and transforming more and more into your true self. Moment to moment, breath to breath, through this movement meditation we call yoga, let your soul dance. Open up to infinite potential, connect to what inspires you, what you are passionate about and what you live for.

“If we want to know ourselves and make sense of the world we live in, yoga is a well tested vehicle”

Georg Feuerstein, Director of Yoga Research and Education Center
